Stroke
After a stroke, occupational therapy works on the tasks that changed: dressing with one stronger side, meals, the bathroom, and using the weaker arm in real life rather than only on a table.
Who this helps
- A stroke changed the arm, the walk, or thinking during tasks
- Dressing, bathing, or eating takes much more help
- Home does not match the new way you move
- Family wants to help without taking over
What a visit includes
- Practice of self-care in the way you will do it at home
- Ways to bring the weaker arm into daily tasks
- Safety changes in the bathroom and bedroom
- A plan that matches your physician's orders

Questions
How soon can therapy start?
As soon as a visit is safe and confirmed. Many people start at home.
Do you also treat the speech changes?
Speech and swallowing belong with a speech-language pathologist. Occupational therapy covers daily tasks and the arm in those tasks.
