Vital Hands Rehab / Stephanie Tagoe
Occupational therapist
Meet Stephanie Tagoe
MS, OTR/L
Our founder, Stephanie Tagoe, has been practicing for 17 years with a specialty in geriatric rehab. Her experience spans hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation, nursing facilities, assisted living, schools, outpatient clinics, and thousands of home visits.
Stephanie earned her Master of Occupational Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia, in 2009. She brings 17 years of experience in specialties including upper extremity recovery after injury, management of neurological conditions including Parkinson’s, MS, and stroke rehab, pain management, geriatric care, adaptations for chronic conditions including arthritis, and fall prevention consulting. She is an academic mentor and educator, guiding occupational therapy students through fieldwork and in-clinic experiences.
A personal commitment to care
She treats the person, and she keeps the family in mind.
Stephanie is a mother of two and shares a close relationship with her parents. Family is a central part of her life, and she brings that same attentiveness to the people she treats and to the people who support them.
She knows therapy changes the household, not only the person in the visit. Patients want to stay independent. Caregivers want to know how to help. Both need someone who listens, explains the plan clearly, and respects what matters to them.
How she practices
Working across hospitals, rehab units, nursing facilities, assisted living, schools, clinics, and home visits gave Stephanie a wide view of recovery. Home visits shaped the practice: treatment has to connect to the activities and the rooms of a person’s actual day.
Start with the routine
She takes time to learn what has become difficult and what the person still wants to do, from getting dressed to joining family and community life.
Practice the real task
Therapy may focus on dressing, preparing a meal, using the bathroom safely, or moving through the rooms that person uses every day.
Include the people who help
With the patient’s involvement and permission, families and caregivers are part of the plan and leave knowing how to help.
Write it in plain language
Stephanie gives practical guidance and written recommendations, so everyone understands what to work on between visits.
Her goal is to help patients do more for themselves, and to help the people caring for them feel informed and supported.
